Digital Product Creation · Body Data Infrastructure · Advanced Manufacturing
My approach to product creation is grounded in three instincts that have shaped every project I've worked on.
"My work is always intertwined with what is the problem we are trying to solve. I strive to understand what a customer needs and how can we understand each other externally and internally."
"I'm an engineer who strives to solve problems. Show me a problem and let's find or make a solution ourselves. I care about using the best tools for the right problem."
"I pride myself in being a translator of expertise. If we all understand our why, we can win as a team. I strive on ensuring clarity with clear strategies and concrete deliverables that are understood from the chief level to individual contributor."
One question, three chapters: How can we use 3D data and advanced manufacturing to move beyond one-size-fits-all products?
That question took me from inventing fully automated custom orthotics at SOLS, to commercializing statistical body models at Body Labs (acquired by Amazon), to revolutionizing how Nike sizes apparel for real human bodies — building a 1.1M body-scan database along the way.
15 years turning body data into products that ship
Co-invented the first fully automated 3D-printed custom orthotic pipeline. Smartphone photo → algorithms → custom CAD → finished product. Scaled to mass manufacturing. Acquired by Aetrex.
Commercialized the SMPL statistical body model — state-of-the-art research into a product with eight capabilities across two markets. Built product strategy across evolving input modalities: laser scanners → smartphone cameras → CNN-based inference. Acquired by Amazon.
Led migration of Body Labs technology into AWS. Validated ML for Amazon Halo body composition — 2× the accuracy of leading smart scales. Navigated compliance for collecting body photos at scale and facilitated data capture for all Digital Health features.
Built a 1.1M body-scan database and question-answering platform that changed how a $50B company sizes its products. Hired Engineering, ML/CV, and Design teams from scratch. Launched the "Fit for Everybody" initiative. Body data became infrastructure at Nike — used from NSRL scientists to marketing directors.
Helping brands and body-data companies define what digital product creation means for their organization — and building the roadmap to get there. Project-based engagements, fractional director roles, and technology adoption partnerships.
The rare combination: material and physical science + software product management + team building at scale
Turning noisy data into actionable insight. I know how to ask the right questions of body scan datasets, biomechanical research, and population studies — and translate the answers into decisions teams can act on.
Building algorithms that translate data into form. From FEA analysis to automated 3D-CAD generation, I bridge the gap between engineering science and design execution.
Designing the entire ecosystem — from user experience to the factory floor. I ship systems, not just features. The data pipeline, the toolchain, and the team structure are all part of the product.
I help teams figure out where they are in their digital product transformation, what's missing, and how to move forward.
